So I recently had the water pump done on my 06 3L Ranger, and then a few months later another coolant leak popped up. This time I think it's the timing cover gasket? I have a video from the shop of the leak while they were pressure testing. I have a relief valve on my radiator cap which I've been keeping in the open position to make the system stay at atmospheric pressure. Just took her on a 6 hour road trip last week and didn't lose that much coolant, but today when I started her up she was dripping pretty good, need to make it another 6 hours home tomorrow, then I can start looking into what to do about this.
Can someone possibly confirm whether this is a timing cover gasket leak, and advise what to do about this?
Other context is I've been having rough idle (sometimes blinking check engine light fitting rough idle) that improves and goes away while actually driving, and this issue seemed to improve or perhaps even go away completely once I started running the truck with that cap relief valve open. Did a compression test with the system pressurized normally, and had low compression on one cylinder which the mechanic said was the cause of the tough rough idle, but again, ever since I started driving with that relief valve open, the rough idle never happens.
Also info to note: my oil isn't milky. My exhaust does seem to be whiter gas than most on the road I see. And I believe the leak gets worse in warmer weather
Thanks for any help in advance.
