shut off now won't crank

I have a 2001 3.0 that has shut off while idleing in drive or driving slowly usually when making a turn. Anyway i was making a turn and it shut off on me so i did the normal deal and put it in neutral and tryed to crank it. Nothing happened and that has been continued i can not get it do anything. Thought it was the battery terminals so swapped those and still nothing. get all the dummy lights but not even a sound from the motor when trying to crank. HELP also when trying to re-crank when it didn't start i thought i might have still been in drive as the shifter is not lined up correctly with the the deal that tells you what gear you are in. i was in neutral and so went to reverse when i tryed to it make some clicking sounds and of course did not like it. i don't think this had anything to do with it but can not be sure , the reoson i say it shouldn't have anything to do is it wasn't letting me crank in neutral either.

Can you turn the engine by hand at least?

Im thinking its something electrical making the truck shut off and keeping it from starting. Electrical short?,PATS system?

My first though was bad fuel pump or clogged fuel filter but that wouldn't keep it from turning over.

I thought it was electrical to, but can't figure it out. tightened all grounds i saw on the frame
and changed out battery cable ends. Could it be the starter? Fuse?

I will try and turn it by hand but haven't tried. What do I turn?
Thanks for the help

Use the search button for PATS and check the threads for just the last 2 months.
It appears this is becoming a problem for early 20xx year trucks.

If you can't figure it out and can't afford a mechanic to fix it here is what you do. Go to a shop that is capable of fixing it and ask if they give free estimates. Let them tell you what the problem is then leave and fix it yourself.

Turn the bolt on the crank pulley. Doesnt sound like the engine locked up, you would still hear the starter trying to engage, but would be a good idea to find out for sure.
