I want it to be LOUD!!!

I have an I have an '01 Ranger EDGE with the 3.0 Vulcan, and I want to make the exhaust louder. I already have FlowMaster 40 classic with the pipe cut off and turned down right out of the muffler... It's nice, but it could be louder.

Let me clarify..... I want to make peoples internal organs quiver.
I want to be OBNOXIOUS!
I want bone-rattling, jaw-dropping, bowel-loosening, ear-destroying, window-shattering noise. I don't care if it sounds good... As long as it's LOUD. I want people to curse my name to the very heavens when I start my truck at 03:00 AM to go to work. I want to make people run in terror. But, not any kind of loud will do. It must be as if Zeus himself pressed his butt to the ground and let one rip. But I'd also like to pass smog.

Any ideas?

I have a flowmaster 40 si/do with the pipes rusted off right after the muffler and it is annoyingly loud inside and out.

Cut off the stock muffler after the cats and get about a foot of 2- 2 1/2 inch piped welded on. It will be about as loud as it will get. Thats what I have but I have mine coming out into duels. Here is a sound clip.

Thats all I can think of.

get a V8

cuz the only way you're gonna get the loud you're describing is a big v8 w/ some nice headers and good exhaust... or do it the stupid and illegal way and cut your exhaust off... but your 3.0 is never going to be as loud as you've described.

when i was swapping in my new motor, we ran it w/o the exhaust system hooked back up to see how loud it was... i wasn't impressed.

my f150, though, with 3" pipes to 3" glasspacks is the kind of loud you're describing. but that's a 7.5l gas v8.

Personally to achieve what you want, i would cut off ONE cat, and put on a 40 series.

Just one!?!? I have six of them... I think I could spare more than one. I was thinking about doing an exhaust cut-out system behind the cats and before the muffler......... That or I know a guy who can hook me up with a 351ci v8 for $1900 installed...... But I want to pay off my truck first.

I would save and get the 351 if you want the sound you are looking for.

Set a high-wattage guitar amp in the bed of your truck, and mount a microphone right at the end of your exhaust. Turn that beast up and let it rip.

I read in a magazine that that is actually legal.

I did that with my old Aerostar... I had a bad crack in my pipe before the muffler... I decided to hook up my cheap little Kima amp to my inverter and draw a corded lapel mic down the tranny access hatch to the crack... I clipped it onto the split its self and cranked up the amp.... Much fun was had that night tooling around town. :)

we have emission inspections here, they're actually the new style "dyno type" emission tests.. I would consider California to have TOUGH emissions laws, so cutting off all (even any) of your cats to be a big no-no if you want to run it on the street, legally.

Quick question, why do you want a truck that loud? usually the type of sound you're looking for, will result in some serious back pressure loss, and torque, especially in a v-6. For a nice tough sound, go with the Flowmaster. Not only is this muffler legal, it can also help in the miles per gallon area a little which seems to be the best route considering how high gas prices have and will go up. I highly doubt the guy who is going to give you an inspection sticker (that is if you do have to have an inspection sticker required in your state) will even look at it without the cats and no muffler. Best way to go is a nice cat back exhaust system.

Best thing you can do with the motor you have now......is.......eliminate the muffler, and add 2.5" from the last cat, exiting in front of the right rear wheel. bye bye gas mileage.

Why do I want it so loud? Because I'm a jerk. I'm the guy that sees you with your window down at the red light and turns his sterio up to let you listen to his tunes. Why am I this way... Because I drive in California, and want my revenge on all the dumb-asses I see on the road every day... I'm also working on mounting a 15 million candlepower spot light in the back of my truck to get people to NOT tailgate or drive behind me with their hi-beams on. Train horn... Have it. I want to replace it with a fog horn. I'm slowly, but surely, turning my truck into the road-warior beast from hell. If you live in LA and see a blue EDGE (with or without tagging on the sides) and no tailgate....... Beware.

No pics right now... Unlike most people, my vehicle isn't my passion... It's nothing more than a tool. Therefore... I have as many pictures of it as I do of my table-saw. I'll try to add some to my profile though... I just got all the spray-paint off, and it's nice and shiney now. Anyone know where I can get a dirt cheap tailgate for my beast?

I friggin love it! I've always wanted a lifted dodge with a cummins with side exhaust.....rollin' with alot of fuel and black smoke, and smoking out the honda next to me with his window down. The joy and satisfaction of filling a ricers car up with nice sutty black smoke, is priceless.

Does running straight pipes after your cats really hurt your gas mileage. I have that set up right know and I drive half city and half hwy and I struggle getting 15.5. I dont drive to aggressive but I am no light foot either.
