different gearing??
hello ranger forums :D
i made a introductery thread a while ago,im still paying off my truck (only 500 left to go :D :D donations vary welcome ><) and hopefully before the end of march my job will help me get the truck quicker :)
okay....well my question for you guys today is i seem to notice when i test drive it..the first three gears seem to have nice potentiol torque but quckly dies once it hits the higher gears, im not looking to tow anything or really be doing over 150 mph..im more of a "lets get the hell outa here kinda person " anyhow im wondering if there is a downgear for it so acceleration in the higher gears are not so sluggish
the 3.0 (from me studying the engines design and such) seems to lack the real low torgue that most trucks have and it comes into play alote more into the midrange rpm within its pattern.which a exhuast and intake takes most effect.
so...i quess you guys know where im going with this i hope ><

Well I'm not sure what ring an pinion ratio u have now but most run 3.73 or 4.10 that helps quite a bit with torque on a stock set up i would not go over a 4.10 unless you have 33 or 35 inch tall tires. u should be able to look on the diff cover for a tag telling u what ratio it has now.. hope this helps

First things first is discovering what gear ratio the truck has right now. There's nothing you can do to the transmission gearing(there isn't the aftermarket support), so it'll either be axle gearing or effective ratio manipulation using tires. Bumping to a lower gear ratio(numberically higher) would help this situation. Or just tossing on a set of smaller tires would make it 'zoom zoom' better off the line.
edit: scratch that....first thing foremost...it's a 3.0. They're not really power monsters...just long lasting tough mothers! lol.

hmm it is a stock regular cab with a extended bed(looks funny to me at times ><)
is it normal for the underbelly to have lots of rust?
anywhooo.so if lowering the truck migh help with the smaller tires since..a truck thats kinda higher off the ground may make smaller tires look a little silly
once the snow clears up here in maryland ill take pics of the truck for you guys, lots of small things will need to be done for cleaning it since it sat for about 1 or 2 years
