Straight pipes on a 3.0 V6

I'm a newbie and haven't posted on here in a lonnng time, but I was just curious about what my truck would sound like without the IMCO Turbo muffler on it. I already have duals and polished tips and it sounds pretty good, noticably louder than stock.

Anybody have any sound or vid clips of straight pipes on a 3.0 V6?

I have a 2004 Ranger Edge Ext Cab 2wd if that matters... I'm quite heavy on the accelerator (15mpg consistent)

Thanks

Well Depends on What kinda of sound you like, I have a 02 ranger tremor with the 3.0 and no muffler out before the rear tire with a 3.5in tip. Now that is with 5!!!!! cat converters. sounds good IMO.

Yes, the multi-cat system is quite a "muffler" in itself. I tore my muffler off offroading before and the truck was not excessively loud. Louder than I personally like in a daily driver, but certainly acceptable to most folks.

It sounded pretty good though. I have some video taken from inside the truck where you can hear the sound and it was an awesome rumble inside.

I have and old-school Flowmaster 40 on the truck now and it's deep, but not loud for sure. It's hard to make a 3.0 loud actually -- I think you'd have to remove the cats which is NOT a good idea for many reasons.

if you want it loud and aren't concerned with losing power, I would try the straight pipes out for a while. You can always put a muffler back on if it doesn't work out. when installing my borla, i experimented what it sound like with no muffler, and in my opinion it sounded awesome. To me it sounded as good as a v8. i have the 3.0 2006 engine.

My brother had his 2000 3.0 straight piped......no cat or anything, just ran it out the stock location with a stainless exhaust tip. I thought it sounded awesome, and it wasn't loud inside the cab.

This is my 1994 3.0l V6 Mazda B3000... It's basically the exact same truck with Mazda logos... No pipes, nada, just unbolted the system after the cat and took it off. It was only a temporary thing while I worked on the muffler, don't ride around without an exhuast system on, you'll burn a valve

http://youtube.com/watch?v=uIkH2cjcuAE (the title is a pun, the truck is just a re-badged 3.0 ranger >.>)

It's louder than crap in the cab like that. I did that with mine just to see what it would sound like and it was so loud.

The older Mazda/Rangers don't have the multi-cat system and they are a LOT louder with straight pipes, lol...

I have a purple honrie glasspack on my 88' stx w/ the 2.9 and sounds pretty nice. Im going to put in a dual system with a high flow cat and 2 glasspacks over summer. It is a cheap alternative when it comes to buying mufflers.

I'm dualed after my Flowtech glasspack and the thing sounds pretty damn good for a V6! It's no true-dualed V8, but it sounds mean.

I would unbolt mine to see, but its welded on... haha

The vids sound cool, but they don't sound all that great to me. I love how mine sounds when the engine is cold or you just start it up on a really cold morning... wow it sounds KICKASS for about 5-10 minutes at idle. I wish it would just sound like that all the time

The video does it NO justice, I took there with a dinky little Kodak Handycam... It's microphone cut out almost ALL of the low, deep bass... I'm going to try and get my friend (who is a musician) to help me get a good recording with a real mike.

Unbolt it where the cat is. Its further down towards the front of the truck. Unless that is the part that is welded on that your talking about.

Ouch! I have a blowmaster...errr...FLOWmaster on my truck...

I like it though -- it's definitely built for offroading and it's welded on.
