4.0 Swap or Whipple, Want V8 but live in CA : (
OK, I've been in and out of these forums and im getting more frustrated by thread. I have
>> Yellow 2002 3.0L Ranger EDGE 2wd Auto Transmision <<
I have a dirtbike graphic company and I bought the yellow EDGE to pre-run and use as a DD and a good advertizing vehicle. (its a bright yellow truck that says RANDOM INDUSTRIES down the side which inteded to make bad ***) Little did i know the 3.0 has no power and I get passed by Big Rigs if I have 2 dirtbikes in my truck and going up hills. (happends evertime I go riding)
So now I NEED an upgrade but all the info on swaps just conflict. I want a V8 but I live in CA. I read that a 4.0 is a direct swap from a donor. The problem is, some threads say it is and some say its not + it still needs to be smog legal in CA. My last option is the Whipple.
My #1 need POWER.
I want to put long travel on the front and bigger tires (ill get the Expo Rear Axle swap) and i want to be able to put things in the bed of my truck and still drive it.
Please anyone who knows tell me which to go with. Its my DD and it needs to be street / smog legal. And yes, i want to keep my truck, im not going to sell and buy a 4.0. I would greatly appreciate it. Im getting headaches from thinking about it.

You have to get a Whipple, because according to when I got certified for emissions testing in NC, CA was one of the states that required the orginial engine size to be in the vehicle. It is also a lot less painful than a swap. I'd say get the E-fan, a computer chip, an intake and a good exhaust and you'll be okay if you want the cheap way out.
