To Drop or Not to Drop (86' Ranger)

I have a pretty nasty oil leak in my 1986 Ford Ranger. I have yet to find out where exactly the leak is coming from. But while I'm replacing the radiator I figured I will go ahead and do a complete gasket replacement as well as the oil seals.

Do I have to drop the motor for gasket/oil seal replacement or can I leave the motor in the truck and do it while I have a little extra room while the radiator is out?

Thanks in Advanced for the responses. I'm off to work now.

On my 85, my stepdad and I found a bad leak coming from the valve cover gaskets. If i was you i would check this out and replace them before getting into the oil pan gasket or anything more difficult. Im not sure if you have to drop the motor for any other seals but the valve cover gaskets aren't horrible to get to.

Personally I would pull the motor. You may be able to do the gasket/seals while the motor is in the truck but its not worth the hassle imo. Pull it out, take your time and make sure everything looks good and is sealed tight.

Pull the motor, take your time, do it right and do them all. It will give you better piece of mind knowing all your seals are fresh and done properly. Plus it will give you the chance to freshen up the look of the engine and bay

Alright, sounds good. I had found an engine hoist and engine stand on craigslist for around 150 bucks for the pair.

As for the 5.0 I can barely afford to just get the engine sealed up let alone drop a 5.0 in it. But I do like your style.
