Engine, transmission, PCM, engine wiring harness and exhaust Y-pipe are all different. Those are the major parts. Be sure to shop for a compatible year donor - a 2003 4.0L would be the best donor for your 2003 3.0L. 2001~2002 would also work without much trouble.

2003 3.0L came with either a 7.5" or 8.8" rear axle, depending on the model. The stronger 8.8 is the factory unit for 4.0's and would be a better choice for your swap, too.

Should be 100% bolt in and plug & play if you get the right donor. Sounds like fun.

if you get a donor truck you should be able to just unbolt everything and bolt it all back in.

What about tranny, can you use the same tranny from the 3.0 and swap a 4.0 in?

Yeah but the engines have different bolt patterns so he would have to get a 4.0 tranny.

The trans are different between the 3.0 and 4.0. This is something I would consider if my engine blew.

By plug and play are you meaning the connections that are on the driverside, below the brake master cylinder? and are all the connections pretty much located in the engine bay?
