I did and I highly recomend getting high performance plug wires and iridium spark plugs, I have double platinums and ill be switching them out next oil change. I did have a little difficulty gaping the double platinums that far.

i was gunna say thats a huge gap. what brand you going for?
i normally go for motorcrafts finewire platinum.

also i have the livewires that go with it, the 10mm ones which is huge over the stock size in my opinion

Wow I didnt know livewires were 10mm, I have 8.2mm Taylor wires. Anyways I will probably just get Bosch or Autolite iridium spark plugs as far as aplication I beleive they are listed for Rangers.

Iridium is supposed to conduct better than platinum. Double platinum is supposed to last a little longer but has more resistance. Copper core plugs are supposed to perform the best but any performance gains from copper plugs wont last long unless you plan on replacing plugs every year. Both platinum and iridium plugs hold their gap better than copper plugs.

so order of performance is copper, iridium, then platinum but reverse order for longevity.
thank you

Is that the gap suggested by the manufacturer ?

45KVolts used to be .045-.050 gap.

Interesting how things change.

i think stock is .044 to .046
i looked the coils up because it seems alot of ppl on here have them, and it says it recommends to get high grade wires and increase the gap

Not sure…
Sorry but I do not have the Coils, I am talking about the Unit I used to run, Jacobs Ignition.

Better wires help no matter what coils you use but when you upgrade the Coil you need to go with a better wire BUT be leery about.
Is the Screaming Demon setup a multi discharge system ?

I might have to get the taylor 8.2's instead, my order for the livewires 10mm is pushed back till the 27th now. how do you like em?

The Taylor wires are better quality than the motorcraft ones, the connections are nice and firm but the 10mm livewires may be a better option.

maybe ill stick it out till then and wait. need new spark plugs soon tho cuz i fouled mine when it was overheating, gas mileage blows right now

thanks for the input guys, ill prob up the spark plugs to a better material and jus gap them to somewhere in between stock and .065. is there a way to check to see if the gap is too much for it to throw a spark?

Jeez , I'm going to sound like another older member on here , but what the hey.
The stock ignition is just fine. All those who believe the hype of these after market companies can just keep spending money on a dream.
The fact is , the stock coil is fine, the Screamin Demon has a little hotter output.
Will you notice any power gain?
With today's gas , probably not.
Will you notice any better fuel economy ?
That's a maybe.
Will 10mm wires work better than the stock 7mm?
Nope.

The reality is companies market toward your desires . Not what will really help you, but what you dream could happen ,'IF YOU BUY THEIR PRODUCT'.

I can care less if I get negative props on this.
I been on the road over 30 years and have seen(and tried) the "snake oil" sold as a cure-all.
Not much has changed.

you wont get negative props. i appreciate everyones opinion on this. im really after gas mileage and every lil bit helps. ive tried some aftermarket parts like the exhaust the intake and even a tonneau cover and they all have helped lil by lil and it adds up eventually. my mpg has sucked recently and i think my wires are old so why not upgrade and get the biggest i can haha. im prob wasting money actually im almost certain i am hah but its nice to think that itll help. im sure my stock coil is good but everyone seems to have this coil so i wanted to see for myself.

Read through the data at PD's Site.
The larger the wire OD, the larger the center conductor and the more voltage will arrive at the plug and the larger the gap you can run.

Try the10 mm wires and a gap around .060" that is the bottom end of PD's spec of ".060 - .065”.

The only way to see the real difference would be to run the vehicle against the clock, with out upgrades and with upgrades.
BUT there should be some improvement.

Luck on the chg.

Thanks for doing some research and looking around for me i really appreciate it. Im definitely feeling better about it now and im going to give it a try and let you guys know what results i find.

Ill prob do a copper based and iridium tipped spark plug by NGK. so you guys know what im using there. any other suggestions will be appreciated as well.

the date for the DUI 10mm got pushed back again. talked to the person and they said they got the taylor 8.2's but there red but also 40 bucks less expensive. then he was like if your going to do the screamin demon coil to stay and wait for their 10mm wires.

what you guys think?
i read some things online and thinking the 8.2mm might be ok.

The 8.2 vs 10 mm is just what it is 1.8 mm in OD but usually the center conductor increases with the OD.
Larger Center Conductor mean less loss over the length of each wire which ends with more spark.

Another thought is you are worried about larger and smaller wires… every plug wire should be the same length, that way the loss, the time to travel the length and the amount of voltage at the end will be the same.

from what i gathered. the livewire 10mm wires are 350ohms of resistance/foot
the taylor 8.2mm wires are 50ohms of resistance/foot
so seems as if the taylors will do just fine and i think its some kind of universal kit which means the wires will be similar in length i think dont quote me haha
