leaking oil from bell housing

So I have an oil leak from the back of my motor. I thought the oil pan didn't seal correctly when I put in the new motor. It turns out that isn't the problem. Im %90 sure its leaking from the bell housing. I'm also %100 percent sure its not the rear main seal. I just had the oil pressure switch changed because it was leaking from there too. Is there a plug or anything else that could leak from the back of the engine? My mechanic is going to drop the trans and run it like that to see where its leaking but I wanna figure it out before he has to do this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced. Oh yeah its a 99 ranger sport 3.0 5spd 4x4

Check the cam synchro or the cam freeze plug. Rear mains fail, its not unheard of. What makes you so sure thats not whats leaking? I hope its your synchro leaking so you wont have to drop the tranny.

It is a brand new motor and the guy working on it assured me it wasn't the rear main. I was also told it may be the PCV valve.

every motor i've seen leaking with it dripping down the bell housing was the rear main seal, my dads, exploder's 4.0 is new as well and after about a month or sow it was already leaking out the rear main seal, just saying, might was well go ahead and replace the pcv valve and see if that fixes it though, cheeper than a shop dropping the trans

If it is the PCV leaking then it should be easy to test! Just make sure it's clean, drive it for a couple days an check an see if it's covered with oil! If it's clean, then that's not ur prob!

could also be valve covers, intake to block seal at the back of the engine, oil pan, etc

I told him what I heard it might be and he still couldn't find it. I'm waiting to hear back from him to find out if he pulled the trans and found it.

Rear Main seal. If its new that doesn't mean ****. I had a new 5.0 150 come in for an oil drip. Truck has 19 miles on it and it was the rear main. They can fail anytime

If its under warranty all you pay is your deductable. Most are 100$. Warranty work includes labor and part costs. You can also get rental coverage.

Really. I didn't think I would get all that. I'm still gonna look into it just to be sure.
