Ok. I am in need of a new engine (I hydrolocked my 2000 Mazda 3.0l)

Every wrecker i call says that the 2000 3.0l was a "one year only" engine.
I'm pretty sure the 3.0l has been around since the dawn of time. So what changed? What would cause all the wreckers to tell me that a 2001 3.0l will not work in my 2000 Mazda Truck. Or even why can't I grab a 1999 engine at that?

Drew, I've got the 2000 EVTM (schematics) and copied quite a few to .pdf that are easy to e-mail (PM me your e-mail address if you need any). I don't have anything for the 01, but it may be a flex fuel thing, who knows. I'd use your original part if there are any differences, especially the injectors. Maybe the 01 has the composite intake, etc.

-Wrecking yards are focused with "re and re" only!

-Guys like the ppl here don't care about a few little mods to make it work.

So does the plastic manifold flow better than the cast aluminum one? Injectors/fuel rail still the same?
