what do headers do? (worth the money?)

well i just installed the borla exhaust, and am curious about headers.

what is the benefit of getting aftermarket headers?
how does it effect gas mileage?

i'm somewhat interested, but they seem to be around $500, and that's a lot of money for me...

FoMoCoFiddy Mar 26, 2005 05:50 PM

not worth the 500 bucks.

headers are virtually un-noticeable on the 3.0. my friend bought them and they certainly weren't woth the money

Black98Ranger Mar 26, 2005 08:18 PM

when i bought a long tube race header for my neon i noticed a huge difference in the response and the way it pulled through 2nd 3rd and 4th. it was well worth the money i paid for that but i am doubting that it would be to noticeable on a truck. especially since your not racing around in it with your foot to the floor. i would say that its probably a waste of money. maybe put that 500 toward a nice lift, some new tires, or a stereo or something. or maybe pay on a credit card thats looming over your head. haha.

ditto

dont do it, on a truck like your ranger, youll only get a few hp out of it. it would be a waste of money. the money would be much better spent on a Bama tuner

loneFX4 Mar 26, 2005 11:05 PM

wut if i was to put long tubes on my truck with offroad y-pipe?

SoundPer4mance Mar 27, 2005 06:52 AM

you would probably lose a whole lot of torque with long tubes. do they even make long tubes for rangers?

loneFX4 Mar 27, 2005 11:08 AM

not currently for the 4.0 and everybody knows long tubes add low end torque.

Zero Mar 27, 2005 11:38 AM

On a Rangre though? Your not driving a mustang here bud...

loneFX4 Mar 27, 2005 11:42 PM

they put my engine into the new 05. so wuts the difference there. torque is torque whether its headers or gears.

SoundPer4mance Mar 28, 2005 04:15 AM

does the mustang engine have the same cam and timing as a small pickup truck? i wonder if everyone knows that....
