truck acting odd

lately in the morning and afternoon i am on my way/back to school and at the same place (im doing a consistent 55mph) all of a sudden my rpms drop and my truck starts to slow down.. now i havent let up from the accelerator its in the same position but all of a sudden the rpms drop and i start to slow down. it drops to around 40-45 and it wont seem to go any furthur so then i decide to pull over put it in park and just give it a second. afterwards it runs fine again. what could be the problem ? thanks.

Possibly the fuel filter. Maybe your system can't sustain the pressure at higher output.

It's really hard to say. I take it that giving it more gas doesn't help?

It could be your torque converter lockup. Perhaps without the "slip" of the torque converter, you just don't have enough oomph to sustain the speed without more gas. The converter clutch locking up normally reduces the RPM's suddenly -- but it doesn't usually result in a loss of speed.

Or it could be that you are running into an invisible force field? Perhaps a cloaked Warbird is parked next to the highway?

silent, that might be your truck cruising in overdrive and then disengaging it when it feels the need to. mine does the same thing...it'll wait until it absolutely has to slip out of overdrive.

and as for ranger kids problem......... i have come to the conclusion that you are driving on a level road, and then you come to an uphill section in the road? lol idk.. maybe your truck just gets lazy.

lol....and it never has happened anywhere else? if it only happens in that spot then i think it would have to be the road or wind or something.

This may sound stupid, but years ago I had a buick that had the same problem, always fritzing out at the same spot every day. Turns out that there was some high frequency electrical interference that effected the onboard computer. Mind you that this was in the early eighties and auto computers weren't as sophisticated as they are today but I read recently that a device was developed for police departments that can disable a car by jamming the computer on your car.

all you people who are sayin its the overdrive disengaging... think reall hard about what you just said

going fro a higher gear to a lower gear thrusts the rps up and slows you down
.. i know cause i use it sometimes to help me slow down faster and safer when the roads are slippery
and to ansewr the qwuetion.. i think its the force field haha

Ok heres whats goin on with it. Every day i drive to school it seems like the same place or maybe a little tiny bit further it does this. Im crusing along at a steady 55 then when i get to this ''place'' (same level road) the truck drops rpms and it drops down to around 45-40. when i give it gas it doesnt do anything it barely wants to move. soon as this happens, i pull over to the side of the road(coasting along) and then i pull back on to the road and it goes back to normal. SAME thing happens on the way home from school it drops rpms and slows down even though the gas pedal is still in the same position as i was doing 55. very very odd please its just annoying when people are behind you and you have to pull over and let everyone by and have to wait and i forgot to mention when i do give it some gas the rpms goes up, and the speed does too but the truck sounds like its in a lower gear.

Edit: i think ive come to the conclusion that every so many miles when you first start the truck it does this because its done this before also going in another direction.
