I know it is synthetic but that is far more miles than I would put on any oil. True, synthetic does not break down as fast but the contaminants still collect and that is as bad as oil break down.

You have no problem running that long on Mobil1, heck half of this site does that.

I've used Motorcraft Synthetic blend 5w20 from day one.

My 3.0 takes a lot of abuse and still runs perfect at 80,000 hard miles.

Iv always used 10w30 in all seasons, and my truck has never gave me no problems. Should i use 5w30 in winter? or just keep it the same.

Lifter rattle? 'Cause you don't have the timing chain like a 4.0.

i took it to a quick lube and they put 10w40 in my 98 4.0, i thought that sounded weird but by the time i realized it they were done, is that a good choice for my truck, im going to do it myself next time(next week) so what do u guys think? it does run fine, but maybe it could be running better if i put a different grade in it??
Thanks
Anthony.

I use 5W-30, cap and manual both say 5W-20. I like 5W-30, and so does the Ranger.

If Ford gave me a monthly cheque, I'd use Royal Purple 5W-20.......but until that day.....5W-30 is good enough.

I just started the transition to Royal Purple from all that dino oil I've used for 3 years. Used Mobile 1 full syn truck and SUV oil. Thats just to clean out all the dino crap.

I need my truck every day and its my life line. I will spend whatever I need to to keep it runnin strong and never let me down, just my 2 cents.

Try flushing the engine next time you do an oil change, maybe just a clogged lifter oil passage, and yes, better oil will be less likely to clog it up.
