What should I do?
Back in the day I bought a 2005 ranger edge 2wd with the 3.0. Never really did anything with it but install a better flowing exhaust and a drop in k&n air filter. Been driving it for awhile but started fighting a engine misfire at around 120,000 miles. At about 165,000 miles I changed out the driver side head from a valve seat pulled in. It has 168k on it now and it is burning 2.5 quarts of oil every month. I drive a 46 mile drive one way to work every day. The truck is still in very good condition with a couple of digs here and there. IDK if I should swap in another 3.0 with updated heads, swap in a 4.0 or fight with a swap with a 5.0. I would love to buy a new truck but then again I wouldn't mind keeping my ranger. What should I do?
Here is a picture of it after I finished doing some cleaning on it today. http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._1846533_s.jpg |
I wouldn't go from a 3.0 to a 4.0, the headache for the very little increase in power would suck. I would say go for a 5.0 if you have the know-how. Lots of info on it at therangerstation tech library.

I have to do some more research on the 5.0 swap. I have no problem with the mechanical part of the fab part nor the wiring that will be required. I would like to find something more on what needed for the swap for my 05 model. guess i'll be searching more.

Yeah it will be tough on the 05 since they have the electronic tach and most of the wiring is set up differently.
