Wont run

Hi guys my 2000 3.0 will start uf i hold the pedal to the floor and crank but wont start on uts own has good spark and has good fuel pressure i am at a stand still dont know what to look at now please help?

Put some gasoline in a spray bottle or get some Quick Start(ether in a spray can)

Remove air tube on intake, open throttle and spray fuel into the intake
Try to start engine, do NOT touch gas pedal

If it starts and then dies when fuel you added runs out then no fuel is getting into the engine, fuel injector issue if you have pressure, 60psi fuel pressure is expected in 2000, and pressure should hold above 45psi for MONTHS when engine/key is off

If engine doesn't start then spark or compression issue
50/50 test

No fuel injected engine should start with gas pedal pushed down to the floor???
If fuel pressure is not holding above 45psi then you may have an injector that is shorted or stuck open, flooding the engine, so pressing gas pedal down is letting in enough air for it to fire.

Key on, RPMs at 0, and Throttle Wide OPEN(WOT) = Turn Off ALL Fuel injectors
It is called "Clear Flooded Engine Routine" and all engine computers have this as part of their software.

The TPS(throttle position sensor) sends the computer above 4.5volt at WOT, and thats what sets Clear Flooded Engine, no fuel injectors
If TPS should short out internally then that could cause a No Start, have only seen that happen one time on a 2.5l but it did happen

So unplug TPS, 3 wire connector, and then try to start

2000 Ranger V6 will have PATS(passive anti-theft system) which turns off the fuel injectors
There is a Theft light in the dash, it should come on with the key and go off, if it doesn't come on then bulb may be burnt out
Rapid flashing Theft Light means the Key did not pass PATS test so No Start is because of bad key
PATS often disabled starter motor as well but not on all models

i have sprayed fuel into the intake it will run then die it is getting good fuel pressure and spark but seems like its not getting the right amount of air fuel mixture i can smell raw fuel in the exhaust. I scanned the truck and got a po113 code for intake air tem sensor curcuit

RonD Sep 29, 2017 12:30 PM

In 2000 the IAT(intake air temp) sensor is built into the MAF sensor

P0113 shouldn't cause the problem you have, it is a minor sensor that fine tunes air:fuel ratio for cold/warm weather

Does fuel pressure hold above 45psi with engine off?

If engine tries to start with gas pedal held down to the floor then you have a leaking injector

Unplug Coil Pack, 4 wire connector
Press gas pedal down to the floor and hold it down
Crank engine over a few times, it will not start of course

Pull out all the spark plugs
You are looking for a WET tip, that will be the leaking injector cylinder, check them all

Fuel injectors all get 12volts with key on
Computer GROUNDS each injector to open it, so each injector is 1 ground wire that runs back to the computer, if that wire should short to metal...........injector is open when key is on

ill try with a pressure guage tomorrow and let you know if it doesnt

juat checked and it is loosing pressure it went up to about 55psi now is slowly going down past 50 within 5 mins

MaDMaXX Sep 29, 2017 02:40 PM

Is it dropping below 45?

Ranger5427 Sep 29, 2017 02:48 PM

Just did it again and it is slowly going down but not below 45psi

MaDMaXX Sep 29, 2017 03:05 PM

As i understand it, so long as it holds =>45 PSI when off, it's fine.

didnt drop below 45 psi so i dont know where to look next

No leaking injectors then

Did you unplug the TPS and then try to start?
