2019 Ford Ranger - Build, Price & Pre-Order

I see these things either having a billion defects in typical ford fashion and dying, or ford giving up on the line again making them hold resale only to weirdos. This truck is now direct competition for the f-150 in size and price. There is no point to this truck beyond nostalgia, it doesnt fill any niche truck owners want. Once the gimmick is gone no one is gonna buy it. Big initial sales then... Flop...

Excited that the release date is getting closer so I went to Fords site to configure one a Supercab 4x2 XLT with about $5200 in opt's
runs it up to around $34 l looked at the 4x4 opt and that's 4 grand so mildly optioned it's pushing 40g.
Seems that the base price at 29g is high to start off with. Not to thrilled with pricing maybe Incentives in the future might move me.

I had already preordered mine in October and later on Nov 10th I had the chance to test drive one at Ford’s Arcadia California show for the Edge ST and the new sporty Explorer. The show was interesting in that Ford wasn’t even supposed to send any Rangers there but about 90% of the people at the show were in line to test drive the Ranger. All the SUVs were mostly parked while folks stood in the baking sun with the bad air from the fires just waiting to drive the Ranger. The Ranger is much smaller than the F150 and looks to be even smaller than the Colorado. But, it’s definitely bigger than my old Ranger. Things that stood out from the test drive, power, handling, and the interior of the cab. It has the power of a V6, the handling is excellent with nice turning radius, but the interior makes you feel like you are driving an Explorer down to the center console. I’m not dissapointed by that but it sure would be nice to get a old school work truck variant at some point. I guess folks want to drive something that looks like an SUV from the inside now. The interior Is roomy, my nephew is 6 foot 3 he sat in the back behind me while I drove and even with my seat back in position he had about 4 inches between his knees and the back of my seat.
I noticed folks quoting some really high prices but we preordered an STX crew cab 4x2 that priced out at 29k and Ford is offering us several rebates the first is for $1,500 and altogether they add up to around $2,250. So we might be around 31-32k with tax, license, and registration out the door. Granted it’s not going to be a Lariat but I would never buy something like that anyway, I just want a truck. I wanted the extended cab STX which would cost $29k out the door but my wife insists on a crew cab. Folks are quoting prices from almost ten years ago but vehicle costs have gone thru the roof since then, plus the new ranger doesn’t feature a fleet type low end vehicle, the current low end Ranger (extended cab XL) would still include the same engine as the Lariat and would come out to $27k out the door.
I’ve previously owned an 86 Ranger my older brother bought brand new when I was in High School, then in 1991 I bought a brand new one, lost that in a divorce in 1993, then bought a 1993 Ranger that was stolen (it was lifted and had a fancy sound system), I then found a steal at auction when I bought a 1994 Mazda Ranger with 57k miles in 1996, I put almost 200k miles on that one with only a timing belt, tune ups, oil changes and a water pump. Then I bought a brand new 2006 Ranger and have recently added a 1999 low mile stepside to my stable (my son drives that one). With the new 2019 we will have 3 rangers in the family and I also own a 2015 F150 which my wife took over and wont give back to me. She loved the new Ranger at the show so maybe I’ll get my F150 back

$44,549.00 with X-plan and another almost $3k for the state. Ordered on 1/3/19. I was ready to pull the trigger on a spec'd out 2018 F150 Lariat but decided it was more truck than I really needed or wanted. And it was
about $20k more. This will be my third Ranger and I guess you can say I am more or less a "Ford guy" as I have owned an F150 and a couple Mustangs as well. I waited a long time for a new truck and have put a lot of work into my '03
(someone will get a good truck). I am looking forward to driving an auto too, as I've been shifting forever. I can always hop in my GT if I want to have a little fun. Hope to give some opinions once I take delivery
and drive it around a bit. Good luck with yours RangerRazz and hope you tell us how you like it. All the reviews I have watched were positive. I won't have mine for 2-3 months...or sooner, I hope, but I will miss the '03 when she's gone.

Delivered May 13
Finally took delivery on May 13. The truck was spotless and gassed up as should be expected. Salesman, who is also the sales manager, gave a great introduction to the truck. This is the second time I have bought from him in particular. There wasn't much for incentives out there and I used the x-plan as previously posted. I know this is an older platform, but it is light years ahead of my 2003. I am really impressed with the power of the turbo charged four banger. Although acceleration is not linear as in a naturally aspirated engine, it "does **** n git" when boost comes on. Ride is trucklike but not terrible. It will most likely remain stock with maybe some bed management.

In my case, with the F-150 I’d lose the ability to easily fit it in my garage, maybe a few mpgs, and the cool factor of the Ranger. YMMV.

Just took delivery of the base model ranger 200 miles ago, only option the locking differential, mostly because they had that in stock.
I like it, but I am not an old Ranger driver, I had an S10 for 20 years and 207k miles. We hated the Frontier, did not like the Colorado. Tacoma too big, Ridgeline too expensive by comparison. Dakota is still "vaporware" for 2020 or 2021. Wanted a work truck, rubber floor mats, etc, this was the only one I could stand, and I liked it. Only issue is I wanted a 5 speed manual, but no dice. The other two supposedly have them, but it was apparently only an order situation, and I wanted to move on the truck faster, since the S10 was giving out. No base model rubber floor mat trucks from the other folks.
The F-150 is bigger. But the Ranger is close enough that it works fine. Way more than the old S10.in both load and towing. Only real problem I have is that high-rise caps for it are not available yet, and that is not a fault of the vehicle..
