Ranger to be built in Michigan, possibly

This was in the local news today. The Ranger might be coming to Michigan Assembly in 2018.

Ford plans to build Ranger at Michigan Assembly

I for one would love to get a crew cab ranger.. hopefully they aren't full of crap, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Also.. this: Bronco might ride again at Michigan Assembly

I just read this article and was getting ready to post it up here. Hopefully it works out and they really do decide to bring it back

If we get crew cab Rangers here by 2019, I know what I'm trading the Fusion in for

Not seeing it.

F150 4x4, 6-speed auto with the small V6 is posted as 20MPG combined

Ranger would need to be 25MPG combined to find a market.

Whole point of the mid-size truck market is MPG when you don't need towing or as much cargo space as a full-size.

And if they build the beefer T6 type Ranger here then...........I just don't see it.
Might as well slap a Ranger logo on an F150, lol

I would think with the EcoBoost they could pull off mid 20's for mpg. A smaller powerstroke diesel would be a badass option too.

We can hope.. but I'll believe it when I see it.

Well Ford did just bring the Foreign diesels into the US in the last couple years in the Transits. I Believe Ford is just thinking of different things to use in the Michigan plant since it is currently the one making all the Focus's and smaller cars. It would be nice to see them in production again, as long as they change it a little from the look of the T6.

I would even be cool with them calling it the F100.. but it needs to look more like the F150 than an explorer or escape. Needs to be truck-y looking.

Possible engine options (obviously they wouldn't offer all of these, but I'm thinking aloud)

2.0L Ecoboost - I get around 30mpg highway and 26 combined with this in my Fusion.
A small PSD to compete with the diesel going in the Colorado
3.7L V6 that is offered in the Mustang
Hybrid for fleet models
Coyote - why the hell not?

As nice as this sounds, I just prefer the look of my 2000. The Gen 3 and up trucks are timeless looking.

They need to offer it with a turbo diesel... something like a 2.5-3.5 liter straight four or V6. And it should be made to allow easy removal of emissions junk so longer life and better fuel mileage can be extracted from the engine... and allow for hop ups.

And offer a crew cab. And a solid front axle option. And a manual transmission with a manual transfer case. Oh, and offer it without a pickup bed so we can build our own flatbed for it...

In other words, pretty much give us what the Aussies get... we want a strong mid size truck with a strong diesel... without a weak IFS front suspension.

I would clean up my current Ranger and trade it in for a little turbo diesel Ranger...

Hate to dig up old bones but I was hoping you guys might know a little more about the rumored 2018 US Ranger.
The latest rumor I have read is that as part of the new UAW contract Ford will be building the Ranger in the Michigan Assembly Plant (MAP) along with a new Bronco that will use the same chassis. Those models will replace the Focus and other small vehicles currently built at MAP. Ford has already stated that those cars will be leaving MAP about the same time and speculation is they will be moved to a new plant in Mexico despite all the grandstanding/threats from Trump.
