Exhaust, imo intake does little but more than let it be noisier than stock. I only have a Stock replacement k&n and removed the silencer but I have a Gibson Extreme duels. It was reasonable at like 350 (freefiddy)

BTW why Borla. Take it to a muffler shop and get the exhaust then buy the intake.

personally i'd go K&N FIPK. http://www.autoanything.com/air-inta...A1914A0A0.aspx the air flow on a volant is more restricted than on a K&N. ur probably not going to get a good cat back for $200 either

Get an exhaust. Why? Have one of you friends drive you truck and you drive next to them. Just listen for something that sound like someone is blowing through a straw. Yeah that your truck. Don't get the K&N FIPK. It sucks. K&N sucks!

The air flow is not restricted on the Volant box.

The intake is more than a foot or two away from any part of the engine that will get hot. Drive down the highway at 60mph and you could have a bonfire right behind you, but as long as it is behind you, you will not feel any heat. Granted your truck will sound like it has ***** with a cat back, but if you can't prove it what good is it? you will get more performance gains from a CAI. But hey each to its own. i guess we all have some bad experiences

an exhaust is gonna run about 500 unless your gonna install it yourself. I have the volant and i have the air box too but since i happen to use my truck in puddles i enjoy having the peace of mind that my engine wont hydrolock cause i have a box. Another tthing you could do is just replace the muffler which is gonna be just as good as doing a cat back. Theres not enough back pressure from the engine for a full cat back to do very much in the power increase department. I'm just gonna replace the muffler for sound quality and run one-in-two-out so i can have dual pipes. HIGH FIVE!

Persoanlly I'd save and get both. Whats the point in having an exhaust when your breathing through a straw? MAC intakes seem to be a winner. Then go to an exhuast shop and get a kit make for you.

I've got both & have even measured power increases. My K&N kit gave me 10hp on the top end and the exhuast did'nt give much.

Now.. how often do you really spend at 4500+ rpms?
Now.. how often would you like to hear the engines exhaust note?

IMO do the exhaust first.

Depending on what brand and type (if we're talking catbacks) your looking at around 200 atleast plus install will be around 400. Most though are gonna run from 300 up plus install can be 500-600 up

Bull****, it has heatshelds with rubber on the top edges that seal it when the hood is closed, thus making it like a box. A heatsheld is designed to block heat, just in case you didn't know.

I own one buddy. You call this a box? Not even close to one.

K&N went cheap on our trucks. I will be selling my K&N for a Volant real soon.

Told ya. My friends have K&N on their cars. One is a 06 GTO and the other is a 06 Tacoma and both of their kits are more box like.

I'm sure its because the maf sensor is bolts directly to the intake tube on the later models. My truck's maf sensor bolts into its own housing.

Yep. lol, sorry if I came across rude the first time. It was a bad day, some idiot let his truck roll out of a parking lot and hit mine in right rear side of the bed. I was all riled up. If I had the 4.0 Id probably go with the Volant. I actually looked into one for my truck, but they don't make it for my year in a 3.0.

I should have researched more but I got a decent deal on the intake. I wast a box to seal out the heat and to shield against water and mud and crap.
