3.0L to a 4.0L swap

Does anyone know what I would have to do to swap a 3.0L engine with a 4.0L engine. Do I have to change out the wiring hareness and all the electrical? And does the wiring hareness plug right in or do I have to splice the wires? It is going into a '99 Mazda B3000, 4x4, and automatic trans. Also, it will be in California, so what do I have to do about the emissions, I am new to the state. And what is the best vehicle to get a donor from? I could easily aquire wrecked cars for the parts, should I use an Explorer or Ranger? Will I have to change the exhaust system? And what would I have to do to put a 5.0L in? Or should I just put another 3.0L in?

thanks
Bill
