really need some advice here

2 months ago i bought a 97 short box standard cab ranger. it is a 4x4 automatic with the 4.0, no options. 94,000 miles on it, runs great, no rust. today my dad told me about a craigslist ad for a 99 4x4 extended cab, loaded. it has the 4.0, a slight lift (at least that's what the ad says), 4 door cab and 90,000 miles on it. It is a 5 speed and the price is $4,000. i need to know what you guys have to say about selling my current truck (97) and buying the new truck (99). some things i have already considered: my truck has the twin beam suspension up front, which i believe is a more durable set up than the IFS on the 99. also on my 97 i have a homemade cold air, and a custom flowmaster cat-back (which both i would sell on it). another thing is my current truck is a bit of a tight fit for me (im 6'1", 240lbs) so an ex-cab sounds good. the last thing is i believe the 99 had automatic locking hubs, my 97 does not, which would be nice. i do have the money right now so that is not an issue. so now i need advice... i trust you guys, and in saying that, which truck should i have?

Overall how soon could you sell what your in, and would you be out a lot of time and money for doing so? I think the 99 is a good deal but if it has some sort of a lift on it figure out what the seller is talking about and make sure its not beat on.

I think the 99 would be a good rig, esp since it is the ex cab. If you can do it do it but weigh out all your options first

I personally would rather have the 99 over the 97. I have a regular cab now and lets just say that I am a big guy (little taller than you and weigh more). I would much rather have an extended cab over the regular one. Also, much rather have the manual over the auto. But, you did just buy the one.

i have quite a bit of money... and selling the old one will be easy because it gets 19.7 mpg, no lie, no typo. it has 3.27 gears lol i didn't pay a lot for the exhaust as it came off of my wrecked 99 3.0 (which i still have btw) and the cold air i did in 3 hours, so i wouldnt be out money, i may break even. im just on the fence

if you get the other one take off the auto-locking hubs they arent as good as the manuals people say the manuals are weak and break alot, also that the slave cylinder breaks alot on the 5spd but ive never replaced mine hehe the only thing you can accuse my ranger of is being sick

well i finally got a chance to look at the truck and i didn't like it. it had quite a bit of home-done bodywork that was definitely noticeable. almost every fender flair was cracked or scratched and the interior looked terrible. also the engine was leaking coolant at the thermostat. the power lock didn't work on the drivers side and there was dog hair everywhere. it just didn't look like it was taken care of very well and i am very particular about my truck, so im sticking with my 97!
