2002 Ford Ranger XLT - Leaking when pumping
Normally, if something like this were to happen I would have suspicions but it's an odd combination of symptoms - at least to me.
I filled up my tank with a gas can for once, next time I went to a gas station I started pumping an the following issues occurred:
- Pump auto-stopped pumping every 5 seconds.
- Gas leaked from somewhere around the filler neck.
- If pumped fast the filler would overflow out.
I have a suspicion currently that it may be a blockage of the breather, yet I am still unsure. Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Sorry should probably have posted this in the General Discussion and not engine.
Thank you for any help.

This comes up as the filler used in 2002 Ranger: https://www.partsgeek.com/assets/pro...n/9Q1KDRS2.jpg
So a 2 pipe unit, smaller pipe is the breather
Yes, if the air can't get out then the gas can't go in so it backs up in the larger tube and shuts of the pump or overflows
In any case it would be best to pull the bed back or tilt it up to check the rubber connection hoses for filler to see whats blocked
You can sometime feel the hoses by reaching up over the top of the tank but not much room there to do anything
Unless you have a lift and transmission jack, lowering the tank is not an option, the wires and fuel lines are a pain to disconnect and reconnect

Hey y'all. So OP here, I discovered the issue. Sorry for the heavy delay, but essentially;
Someone thought it'd be a good idea to stick a large piece of plastic into my fuel neck, likely just trying to cause damage.
I fixed it by removing all the plastic with needle nose pliers, and sawing off any damaged parts of the fuel neck, and replacing them with new metal - except one part where I got lazy and decided to bracket a rubber hose.
Regardless, if y'all ever have this same issue - I am sorry you have enemies. On the bright side fix ain't too tricky.
