2003 4.0 chip and other mods. Opinions?

Hey guys got my first Ranger the other week 03 4.0 4 speed manual 4.10 posi California truck and want to do some things to it to make it mine. And if its possible better mpg lol

I read alot about this superchips for it and heard alot and have a friend with one on his explorer and got better mpg with it any thoughts are they safe and do they work on the 4.0s good? Even 2 mpg would help and its half the price of decent headers and I would gain more if it works. Also would it delete the top speed govoner?

Any body against an air damn to force more air into the engine bay and radiator? They don't have them from the facotry and wondered if there was a reason for that cause I am putting off-road lights in the honeycomb grille and it may restrict airflow to the radiator. Good or no good?

Lastly I want to bring the exhaust before the rear passenger tire under the cab and want a good loud too it. I heard of this small square muffler that I love the sound of it sounds like my straight pipe V6 firebird. Nothing ricey though. Also any good Y pipes without resonators or a high flow cat that is emissions safe? I sadly live in CT so yeah..

Sorry for the long post but any advice would be appreciated and any other good mods you would recommend but I have another car to build up too so nothing that costs thousands lol. Thanks!

avoid the "ebay superchips". if you are going to get a tune, do it right. Go to an authorized SCT dealer and get a custom tune. I got one from Rogue Performance for about $400 on my 4.10 2005 FX4 Ranger. I gained about 2-3 average mpg. worth it to me.

That's awesome. Do you have to run premium gas? And was your power reduced at all?

I run just 87. Power-wise, I dont notice any loss. If anything, it improved. It has much harder/faster shift times, and doesn't bog down when i go up a steep hill. Best purchase I've ever made for my Ranger
