Truck is bucking, sputtering and missing...Need help please!

This first started over a month ago and I changed out my spark plugs and fuel filter and it seemed to have fixed it for the time being but now its back and worse than before. The truck has no power, sputters, bucks and misses at all times trying to get up to speed. Its been on and off the past week. Fuel Pressure is good, MAF sensor is good, Fuel Filter is new. Only other things I can think of are bad injectors or a bad Coil Pack/wires? Any other possible things to look at? This is super frustrating haha. Trucks specs are below.

Thanks,

Clay

Is your truck using coolant? cracked heads?
Have you done a compression test?
Have you sprayed the coil pack with water (and plug wires) and watched them with the lights off?

Doesn't use coolant and I sure hope the heads aren't cracked. It idles smooth but as soon as you give it gas thats when it all starts. I have not done a compression test yet but I was also told to try and take the spark plug wires off the coil pack one at a time to find out which cylinder doesn't change what its doing to narrow it down to that specific cylinder. I've just never heard anyone having issues with injectors on here.

Not throwing any codes? What plugs did you put back in it? I chased a similar problem for months to find out it was a cracked plug. I switched out all the autolite plugs and went back to stock motorcrafts and it ran fine.

There's no Check Engine light but I'm going to see if there are any codes tomorrow. I put Motorcraft plugs in last which is what I normally put in and today I just bought Autolite to swap the motorcraft with. I'm sure if I were to swap out the plugs it will run fine again but I shouldn't be eating through plugs every month.

Compression is good in all cylinders. The CEL came on and said that there was a misfire in Cylinder 3. New plugs made it miss bad. What I found out though is that my last Cat is turning bright red which means its clogged. That Can cause the bucking hesitation and loss power. So I'm going to switch out the plugs and wires and get a new Cat and hopefully that fixes it. If not then Its either a bad Coil Pack or a bad injector. Any other ideas? Thanks guys

The miss is probably causing you cat to get hot cause its trying to burn the unburned fuel that your miss is causing. If you dont have a cat. efficiency back 1 code yet it might survive if you fix the miss before it burns up.

My truck is doing the same crap, its not as bad as yours though. I thought the trans was slipping as it would do it under heavy accel or cruising up a hill. Its been parked since memorial day. Started it up the other day and revved it in neutral, sure enough its there with no load.

Plugs/wires 40k ish
165k on the truck

I really dont want to chase this when a 5.0 screams at me when I am in the garage.

Its so frustrating...With my truck though its been one thing after another this year and this is just tops it all off ha. I know what you mean about the 5.0, have the same kind of thoughts but with another engine ha.

Thats exactly what I'm going to do tomorrow. I have Bosch wires that have been in there for a couple years when I bought bosch plugs. Getting factory motorcraft wires and plugs this time. I really hope this fixes it.

Sounds good man. When the dealer did my 60k service they did plugs but not wires.. I was like your kidding right?! I almost got stranded with a trailer when my truck was acting up. But I couldn't replicate it and finally it threw a constant cel. Unfortunately I had just got a load of loam for a job and had to shovel into the back of the 350. Haha. But anyways. I was going to do motorcraft wires. But for 100 bucks I said nope. 50 for autolites. Hopefully throwing wires on will work for you man.

Alright I bought Motorcraft plugs and autolite wires(All they had in stock). It idled smooth and It doesn't seem to miss anymore(Didn't even have it on a minute) but as soon as I give it gas it back fires pretty bad which I'm thinking when my cats turned cherry red it destroyed them causing it so I think once I get my 2 Cats replaced I'm good to go! Hopefully I can get these replaced for a good price ha. Stupid Cats are expensive.

Backfireing after a wire replacment is usually two wires crossed, in the wrong place.

All wires are in the proper place. It has to be the Cats. I mean one of my Cats actually got so hot it caught on fire, flames and all haha.

Well, you were right ha. I took it to my works mechanics shop and they looked around and retraced the wires and it runs like a champ now. Having the truck towed in there for that was pretty embarrassing lol but I swore they were right so I was clueless as to what it could be. Cats are good as well. There seems to be no lost power.

I swapped out wires and have about 50 miles on it since with no bucking/jerking. Went from Bosch 8mm wires to motorcraft.

Amazing how something like spark plug wires could cause such a problem haha. Glad it seems they are doing the trick for you to!
