4.0 SOHC
I have a 04 Ranger 4.0 SOHC. My dad has a 2011 same motor. Supposed to have same HP and his would leave me. I put on the throttle body, if it whistles you have it on backwards, and just a regular Flat K&N air filter in my stock box. Took the 2 inch reducer out of the front of the air box so it now has a 3 inch hole. More air, less fuel. Now we’re about dead even. I don’t believe it added any HP. Maybe 1 or 2 and same with the air filter but the throttle response is much better and before when I stomped it to pass someone it would stay in passing gear till 70mph. Now it shifts back down at around 64mph and keeps climbing fast. So it did something. I also just took a trip and I live on a big piece of property so I ran it out of gas pretty much(shit it off as soon as it sputtered, then I filled it up with 18 gallons of regular 87 octane and set out on a 5 hour trip to go home to the beach. Normally I have to stop and put a quarter tank in at the last gas station. It’s 321 miles away. When I got there I still had just under a quarter tank. So from that point it turned into driving around town. I ended up with 407 on the Trip mileage. I figured I got 21-22 MPG which is much better than 17-19. It’s the throttle response that you’ll really notice and you can tell the power is there by where it switches gears now. A 2008 and up Ranger I wouldn’t mess with except maybe the air filter but it did help my 2004. I also have a Mazda B-3000(Ford Ranger) and did manage to find a spacer for it. It’s my work truck so I don’t take it out on the highway much for long trips but the Throttle response in it is wayyyy better. The point is, if you’re pumping more air in then your computer compensates and shoots less fuel into the cylinders. More air= less fuel to ignite. On a side note after I did all this I accidentally left it in 4X4 pulling out of someone’s yard. Luckily it had just rained cause my buddy has an explorer same year and motor and we started racing. I’m sure it’s not good for it but it will run 117mph in 4 wheel drive. Got a Smarttune chip to get rid of the throttle rev limiter and governor. And people with big V8’s hate it. If you have the 4.0 you have more power to weight ratio and I leave them all looking stuck on stupid when I go to pass and they try to not let me. Assholes.

How do you remove the 2" reducer?
I removed the air intake box but cannot figure out how to remove the reducer without cutting or breaking something. Can you tell me how to remove the reducer???
Thanks, gary |
