4.0 SOHC Blown

Just got my hands on an 02 Ranger it has the 4.0 SOHC 5 Speed Manual Transmission lifted sitting on 35s by 15s and itís 4x4, what a dream. It didnít start i when turning over i could smell coolant out of the tailpipe so i check the oil yup head gaskets were blown it ad coolant in the oil anyways i still bought it because im crazy and i dont mind getting my hands dirty i did a rebuild on a 5r55s 05 v6 mustang transmission ( automatic ) and i for sure can do an engine rebuild since they are WAY easier than trannys. Anyways as i took the engine apart and realized what I suspected i also saw twta there is a hole in on of my cylinders dontknow what could have coused this since the head doesnít seem like it was hit by any screw or anything and the valves seem fine there is no kind of markings from a screw or nut hitting the aluminum head. SO THE QUESTIONS ARE!? what type of transmission do i have on my ranger ( name or code ) so i can research and see if there is any V8 that will bolt on to it. If there is a tread for v8 swap to my specific year 2002 manual 4x4 please point me in the right direction. Is there a way you can check pistons to see if they are good dont really want to replace them all i just wanted to replace the brown one with an other used one from the junk yard. (Ik its not the wisest thing to do but im really thinking about it just by the fact im going to have to go to a machine shop to get new pistons swapped on my connectin rods! 😫 thank you all in advance

Current transmission is the 5R55E

Yes, Ford did used the 4.0l SOHC engine in the 2005-2010 Mustangs

4.0l SOHC engine was used in these:
2001–2012 Ford Ranger
2001–2010 Mazda B4000
1997–2010 Ford Explorer/Mercury Mountaineer
2005–2010 Ford Mustang

So yes, it would bolt to current 4.0l transmission in the 2002 Ranger

Wiring harness is probably different, can't speak to that for Mustang wiring
If you swap upper and lower intakes with injectors Ranger wiring would be back, for the most part.

Always change the Knock Sensor when intake is off, wires get brittle and break.
Also thermostat housing was an issue on the 4.0l SOHC
