Icon8 4.0 rebuild woes

Heres the story, It was raining earlier today and i went out to look for some boggers that I heard running, i was on a little trail looking for them when i came to a large puddle, well i know how deep it is without water so i proceeded to go through it. I hit the puddle too fast and my truck died. So i tried cranking it and it fired and died, tried again and it fired and died. so i figured that i had water in my motor. so after calling my dad to tow me home, i started pulling all the plugs out and after pulling all six plugs, starter and the maf. Well i put them all back and fired her up, and what do i hear? A F*@#in rod knock. Yup, I killed her with just 86k on the clock and a major tune up not even two thousand miles ago. Sonova B!@%h!

So now what? Do i pay the 4k to rebuild....do i go with a block from super six motors...do i fork over the extra 2k for a cummins 4bt motor...do i try and sell her as is? Heres the SH!!@Y part, I'll be leaving in 4 months to basics for the navy, and once i got back i planned on selling my ranger and getting a cummins or powerstroke because my dad makes his own diesel and i love the power the trucks make. Now what? Oh and btw i know this isn't the classifieds forum but i have an 03 4x4 5spd ranger for sale on 32x11.50x15 tires with a sweet sound system. Only prob is she has a rod knock

so what the hell do i do? Whats the going price for a 4.0 rebuild? My dad spoke with one of his friends who is a ford mechanic and he said it'd be around 4K? Any suggestions or advice?

I dont see why not, You ought to be able to buy a low-millage 4.0 sohc for at least under 1k I would think. 4k to rebuild it just sounds ridiculous to me.

Ya of course i know that. I figured i'd just subtract the cost of a rebuild from the book value
