4.0L OHV programmer

Ok first of all i will say i did a search but the results are extensive on this site for searches on programmer or tuner.

So this is what i need help with I have a '96 4.0l with a manual transmission. I am running 33 inch tires. I need to reprogram the computer to account for the larger tires. I know this can be done with a scan guage, but i don't want the added cost of performance tunes as my truck engine and transmission combo won't see any significant gains. I do plan on regearing the truck in the future.

So does anyone know of any engine programmers that just allow you to adjust for gears and tires and read engine codes? For some reason I think I remember seeing one for about $250.

i dont recall the scanguage being able to reprogram for tires.

I think superlift used to make them. You could always search for the "diablosport" or whatever programmers, they come with tunes and I think you can change your tire size.

every vehicle 96 and up has an obdII port...

I'm not sure what you're getting at.

You have a couple choices.

Superchips
Xcal (best option)
Diablosport (yet again not sure if it does tire size)

Scangauge won't do it.

Scangauge has a + or - adjustment to fine tune the MPH on the SCANGAUGE itself. so you can see actual speed thats how mine is set up now and verified with a GPS. now it does not change the stock speedo

I had a feeling you would be able to do that, but I knew it wouldn't adjust the stock speedo, thanks for the clarification.

So the scan guage can adjust for a set increment of MPH? For example adjusting +5 mph will be the same at 30mph as it will at 60 mph?

yes it will I drove everything from 0-85 with the GPS and the Scangauge on and there 100% matched after it was adjusted it shows the now correct MPH on the scangauge itself

I found what I was looking for:

Jet Chips Power Programmer - Speedo Pro
Now I just need to return the scanguage

All I need it for is programming the tire and gear sizes.

But I am not looking for the performance programmer, I just want to be able to set the gear ratio and the tire size.

for the price of the jet chip you can spend an extra ~$50 and get a superchips programmer, which are a lot nicer and come witha variety of tunes, extra power, fuel economy and towing perf. you are already going to drop serious cash so why not get something in the same price range that can do what you need and alot more. if it were me id get a superchips, but thats just me and i dont argue with extra ponies and better mpg's but thats just me

Given the miles on my truck (about 120k)and the fact that I have a manual transmission I won't be able to see much in the way of HP gains. The ohv just doesn't respond well to simple mods. I emailed the website that is selling it to ask about their return policy. If they have one and it doesn't change the gear and tire size then I can jsut send it back.
