For my first engine swap how should I approach this?

Should I save up for a complete 4.0 SOHC engine or just buy the block and slowly rebuild it? I hate to make a short thread like this. But I could get a 4.0 block out of Explorer for 125 bucks. I would like to buy the block, and work up at building it this way I learn more about the engine as I build it. But since I'm a noob it might be easier for me to buy a old engine and just replace parts.

Thanks in advance

buy a complete engine. especially with newer engines, buying the parts separatly will cost you an arm and a leg and your left ear lobe. get it complete if you can. the only downside to using a lot of old electronic parts is who knows if they are any good. find someone who knows how to test them to make sure they are ok before you crank that sumbich up.

a guy you will want to become best friends with is Doug904, who knows the SOHC really well. And N3ELZ who knows the electronics. rwenzing knows his stuff too. Me personally, i know a lot about a little and a little about a lot, ill chime in if i do know

My friend also mentioned about the 2.3 I4 turbo engine. So I'm also looking into this possibility since I've always wanted a turbocharged vehicle. Lots of choices for me lol.
