You can remove your snorkel, some people drill holes in the box to let more air flow through. I didn't notice anything when I did mine.

It makes it a little louder. If you want to hear your engine when your getting on it do it. Performance gains are nill if any.

You dont really gain anything from it like said above but it does give you a cool little winding noise. lol I did this mod and got a K&N drop in filter and didnt notice much if anything.

If you are putting holes in it, would you have a better chance of getting water in lets say if you splash through a big puddle?

Probably. I put holes in the bottom of mine so water can drain out. When I flooded my airbox the water just sat in there and the intake kept sucking it up. So a couple holes ot let the water drain and viola.

Here ya go:

Very simple to do. The bottom half of the box takes a little convincing to get out. Just keep sprayin more WD-40 and itll come out. hah

Very good write-up, but after spending an hour and a half yanking on my truck like an idiot, and had run out of WD-40, I gave up.

Words from a great chinese master: when when the WD-40 is gone, the day is done.

You will learn young grasshoppa.

I had to manuever a short screwdriver in between the airbox and the metal plate and pry them apart, then the box popped right off. That was after 15 minutes of yanking on it.

mine came out with no issues. Just had to work with it.

I also cut the front of my airbox out to allow more air flow like a Cold Air Intake would. It works... no big gains except it sounds cool. Sometime this year Ill get a true intake.

Actually worse....if you put holes in the airbox, and remove the snorkle, it will draw hot air in. It won't be a CAI like it was originally designed to be

If you want to pull more air in, port and polish your heads.
