Buttercup Dec 27, 2006 06:17 PM

You gotta spray a little WD-40 on them to get them to slide out. Plus use a flat screwdriver to push down on them as you pull real hard on the box.

REUBER Dec 27, 2006 06:20 PM

they are hard plastic, i think i just read you gotta wiggle

ranger Dec 27, 2006 06:43 PM

the box was a B**** to get out. and my gromets were rubber and they came off after a 10min pull o war.

REUBER Dec 27, 2006 06:45 PM

im getting pissed....just getting dirty no results!!!! i about lost a nut pulling so hard still nothin i have to pull from under the whole box cause the inside things are hard plastic

REUBER Dec 27, 2006 06:55 PM

bump that box....finally got it off, but the right side plastic broke off...hope that wont be a problem!

REUBER Dec 27, 2006 07:29 PM

HA, done..this was first mod i have done on the truck myself since i got it so im stoked! sounded better i drove it around block in my mind it ran better too

REUBER Dec 28, 2006 03:42 PM

i feel i get a better grumble out of my exhaust and i feel the engine runs so smooth now too like quiet,,ive never had a 4.0 is this my imagination??? and never used a drop in with the airbox mod

bryanjints Dec 29, 2006 08:49 AM

If you hit those rubber grommets with WD-40 or the like they will just slide right out. Without lubricant it is a tug o war with at least one of the plastic pieces breaking almost everytime.

Holy Large Picture Batman!

REUBER Dec 29, 2006 09:52 AM

lol my bad...but it gets good detail of the nastiness on the filter you can see the bee's butt on it.....

LILBLUE04FX4L2 Dec 29, 2006 10:01 AM

post pictures of the cut up air box....

REUBER Dec 29, 2006 10:48 AM

what do you mean? I didnt cut it just removed the silencer like on the how-to

LILBLUE04FX4L2 Dec 29, 2006 11:24 AM

that's not an airbox mod then - just sliencer removal
air box mod is when you cut additional intake vents in the stock box to free up even more breathing

REUBER Dec 29, 2006 11:18 PM

oh well im not drilling holes in the box that seems worthless

Sonic_03 Dec 29, 2006 11:19 PM

why didnt you jsut toss in an intake and be done with it?

REUBER Dec 29, 2006 11:27 PM

i might.....but i needed a new air filter...and i dont know if o will get an intake system....i dont have much more i want for truck maybe some inside paint..but i pretty much have everything noe i want..with the tail lights and clear corners coming in so screw it air silencer plus drop in was good for me

ranger Dec 29, 2006 11:29 PM

^^ things do cost money

Sonic_03 Dec 29, 2006 11:38 PM

yea nothin serious only reason i said was because for a few extra bucks coulda tossed in an airraid wouldnt have cost much more at all..like mine..and it still sucks a crap load of air should hear it

ScottG Dec 29, 2006 11:56 PM

ive thought about an airraid, but i want the intake tube too

Sonic_03 Dec 30, 2006 08:34 AM

airraid carries them i just wanted to keep the stock look for now i think the tube is an extra 50$ or something the guy said..she still moves..i dont know if its our weather up here or not but having the exaust and intakes and such done i can keep up with a hemi and a diesel dont know why?

Machine090767 Jan 6, 2007 06:30 PM

with this air box mod, all you remove (no cutting required!)is the tube and contraption behind the passanger headlamp. all this mod does is open up the box for more airflow.

user 92702 Jan 27, 2007 09:37 PM

I get the concept of it, like I'm not a complete retard when it comes to vehicles, but I want the best bang for the buck. When it comes to air intakes, what takes the cake? Is the Airraid intake system worth it for the increased amount of air it takes in, or would a drop in filter, and remove the airbox silencer I believe it's called, which costs I'm guessing a few bucks less, give not the same, but similar results?

Example:

Airraid cost $200 increase of 6 rear wheel horsepower - As stated in an ebay auction
K&N drop in cost $50 increase of ? horsepower

If the drop in adds 1.5 hp, then they both match up, and it all depends on what you want. But if the K&N were to free up an extra, for the sake of conversation, we'll say 4 ponies, then the Airraid wouldn't be worth it. On the other hand, if the drop-in gave very little or no extra hp, that wouldn't be worth it.

Anybody?

crawly1025 Jan 29, 2009 06:23 AM

My MAC pulls tons of underhood hot air. I'm thinking of going back to stock to try and solve this and just using a Fram Airhog filter.

rangerboy101 Jan 29, 2009 06:33 AM

Ok?
