you wont notice a power gain by switching to aftermarket plugs and wires. you may think you do if you are replacing worn ones, but you will get the same feeling using stock OEM plugs and wires, they are MORE than adequate.
Bosch plugs have done nothing but give me grief in 4.0 SOHC engines, i pulled them out of the explorer and threw them in the woods. only motorcraft, or autolite, for me.
todays ignition systems do not require improvements on a naturally aspirated engine

^^ agreed. You can gain back some lost HP from old worn out components. Leaving plugs on 100,000+ miles and you will have gaps that have widened to the point you will lose some sparks and the gas will leave the cylinder and burn up in the cats. If you check your mileage regularly, this will tell you if you recovered some of the loss back. Better mpg = more HP with ignition components.

i got motorcraft platinum plugs and motorcraft wires. the wires are 8mm wires, the same size as aftermarket wires. The dealership i buy parts from sold them to me both for $65.00. the local Car Quest wanted $75 for their platinum plugs and 8mm wires. that seemed like a good deal to me.
i am the type of person that would rather spend a little extra money on factory parts than going to a parts house. yea you might pay a little more (seems the local dealership is cheaper on their parts than the local parts houses) but if Ford will put it on their new vehicles, then i will put it on my 97.

I have not seen them in a car, but denso sponsers our Mini Baja program and they hooked us up with some iridiums. we are limited to a 10 hp briggs and we have a dyno for it whit a new champion we got 8.7 hp turned the thing off pulled the plug and put a new denso in ther and got 9.4 and i know that .7 horses sounds small but when your only dealing wiht around 9 its noticable

Good to know. A friend of a friend that works at a local dealer told me that the Iridiums are the sh** now. That's what they're putting in the police cars now. BESIDES, the dealer wants $10.50 ea for motorcraft platinums, & $120 for a set of motorcraft wires. I'm not going for that when I can get iridiums for about $9 ea and multiple name brand wires for around $70 to $90.
