i have more questions...
anyone running underdrive pullies on their 4.0sohc?

how has it affected your charging system?
any change in temps?
is throttle response improved?

does anyone have a side by side comparison of side?

would there be more to gain from a tune?


and have you noticed any squeaking or slipping of belts?
are their color options(i would be wanting a red if avalible)

this doesnt pertain to the 4.0L.. but If it's anything like the results that they gave my 3.0L i'd get em..not a crap load of added power, but noticable in throttle response and the engine just revved quicker(the 4.0L SOHC outta like that since it's a revvy motor). If you get the alt pulley you shouldnt get any charging issues

i dont care about power increases really.. throttle response alone would make me happy... whats the point of power if you cant get it put out faster....

but does anyone have answers to my other questions

I think there is a pully for the Alt. to fix this problem. I know someone on this site has one. Graniteguy maybe?

I've been runnning a crank UD on my 06 FX4 for almost a yr now. (daily driven 20k a year)

I'm a big fan of underdrives. They reduce the amount of torque consumed and for the most part a driver who pays attention to temps and such will never have a problem.

Ranger specific experience:
I've pushed it quite hard. This last summer I sat and idled w/ac on in 90F temps for about 35-40 minutes before it started to overheat. (I have an e-fan) Mind you, during that time I did'nt move but about 100ft at most. Sat dead still the whole time. Also, I towed my 3500lb boat out on the interstate. It was running cool enough (with temps in upper 80s and AC cranked) that the e-fan did not come on while out there.
As far as charging.. here is what I measured with **everything electrical** running and at idle.

btw, Here is a tool I made to hold the crank still while removing the pulley. (heavy wall pipe and a lawn mower blade)

i cant see pictures you posted. but thanks for your personal non bs experience! i hardly sit in one place for a time and done use my a/c but maybe 15mins at a time or when its a hot day and my truck has been heating up in the sun and its like an oven when i open the door.

i will most likely get all 3 pullies so the water pump is still pumping out the same amount. and i will need the alt to be working its best

Not sure why they did that? The links were all correct. Seems to be working now. Try holding shift and click refresh at the same time.

I had an underdrive pully for my 2.3 and it was a major diffrence. Better throttle responce and mileage with no charging issues. I have a race crank pully for my Mustang and have no cooling or charge issues. But I could tell i was at the limit of the alt with everything on and at a stop at idle. Changed the alt to a 130 and added more electrical loads but have no problems.

thanks for the replys everyone.
i think im going to order a set of pullies, tranny cooler, efans, and a re gear soon. since ill have a lift and 33s by december. hopefully i wont notice that much of an loss in performance.
