4.0 ohv intake - volant or other?

anyone run a volant on a 4.o ohv? noticeable difference? had a mac intake at one time, though they claim 10 hp on their website i didn't notice a thing...thinking of getting a volant or possibly getting a zabteck preformance intake and trying to see if it will work on my ranger

Volant is one of the better intakes for our OHV's. And your going to notice little, if any gains for a cold air intake. Regardless of who makes it.

Agreed. I had an open one and all it did was pull in hot air. The stock box keeps the intake air temps much cooler, so I think the Volant would be the better choice. I put the stock box back in and a K&N Filter. The intake sounded cool though lol....but it ended up costing a lot of money for sound.

My advice, do the stock airbox mod and put a K&N in there and you'll be good.

only difference between stock and volant is an extra hole near fender? thinking about putting the filter in the fender similiar to the way mustangs are, but am wondering if worth the exercise? does aem makes stocl replacement air filters? haven't checked myself yet...thinking of about the same price of volant could get a udp instead and probably better bang for the buck

intake

I like the performance from my k&n part#57-2536 and the added horse power I got by adding a BBK throttle body. Then I went as far as to add some JBA headers and flowmaster exhaust. Was able to order all of it from ORW.

I agree, you're probably wasting time with an aftermarket intake on the OHV motor. Aftermarket intakes normally pull in warmer air than a stock intake, but you sometimes get HP gains from them at high RPM (if at all). The OHV does not rev very high, or make much power at higher RPMs. About all you will gain is sound, more then likely.
A box like volant will probably pull "just as cold" air as stock, but I still doubt you'll see any gain from it on that engine.

I just put the Volant on mine, but it doesn't seem to be doing much. Makes the engine sound better though above 3k rpms, but other than there isn't a ton that it does.

Mod your factory box like everyone used to many moons ago. Dremel the sides off (the ones away from the heat).
