oil test.....

where can i get one done at? how do i send the oil sample to them?

Talk about coincidence!!! I just got mine back yesterday.

I used Blackstone labs in Ft Wayne Ind.

Comcast seems to be down or else I'd post the results.

i used to have one of thier containers laying around, i think you go to their website and they send you a container then you send it in and pay

22.50 for the standard test and 32.50 if you want the additive life examined.

I paid the 32.50 to see if the ford oil was still good at 5k miles. (it was)
Also interesting.. is my K&N filter is not allowing excess dirt into the system. Although.. I drove on *only* paved roads. Even so IMO this little study was very informative.

After going thru there site, I think I'm going to send mine in. I've been wondering how long I can fun my synthetic for this should answer that for me.

I've rebuilt a number of engines over the years. And the one thing I think is key in choosing a oil is heat. If you put high loads on a motor the oil is going to get hot. And it's ability to not coke is important.

The lifters usually seem to be the first items that get coked up when you put a lot of heat into a motor in my experiences.

Also, where and how the oil returns to the pan can coke things up. For instance the 2.9L in the 87-ish rangers spray oil right on the crank. Sure enough.. you'll see it very black in that area if the motor got hot.
