its on, and code says itsrunning lean. fix?

 

It could be a lot of things, do you have the actual code? MAF, IAC, o2 sensors, etc

 

The fix says to richen it.

 

ill check next time it pops up, i just cleared code.

 

ok , here are codes p0171 and p0174 bank 1&2 are running too lean.

 

Mine popped up 2 weeks ago. Same codes. Cleaned the MAF and (knock on wood) it hasn't come back on.

 

What you need to do is get you a piece of black electrical tape and just place it over that light lol

 

so its not affecting the engine? just some sensor thats screwy?

 

Possible a vacuum leak, don't assume it's not affecting the engine, its throwing a code for a reason. Even if it is just a sensor going screwy, that sensor is giving bad readings, in this case too lean, and the engine will be affected. It's definitely worth checking out.

 

what is a long term consequence of this lean fuel on the engine?

 

Not sure about mechanically, but i noticed a 2 mpg increase and gained power when i fixed my vacuum leak, was throwing the same codes as you.

 

could be O2

 

When those two codes pop up together its usually a vac leak.

 

Melted pistons, broken ring lands, take your pick. Overheating is another thing you should be worried about.

Mine was on the brake booster line. Have the truck running, and spray brake cleaner on your lines. If the brake cleaner is sucked into the motor, the engine will rev and you my friend have a vacuum leak.

 

Those to together....Bottle of lucas octance booster....Tighten gas cap. Stop Buying Walmart gas(idk why it just does that.) Clear code....Problem solved....most of the time.

 

My vote is for a dirty MAF first.. then a vacuum leak second.

There's a hose that runs on the pass side of engine, front to back. The 90 degree elbow towards the front often tears, that was my problem. You can fab something up, but 35 bucks at the dealer will get you a new hose and elbow.

there's posts on here about it somewhere....I know I have one....
