Need help locating sensor

I own a 98 Ranger 4X2 with a 99 model 4.0 out of an Explorer. I need to check on my temp sensor (the one which controls the gauge on the instrument cluster). Can anyone point me in the direction to look?

4.0l OHV
Both the ECT sensor and ECT sender are side by side and will be top front of lower intake manifold, just above thermostat housing, where upper rad hose comes out.

ECT sensor has 2 wires, only used by computer

ECT sender has 1 wire, only used by dash board gauge

ECT= engine coolant temperature

Thank you very much. I see the two you are talking about right above the thermo housing. One is a two wire and the other to the left is the one wire. I'll give it a try. Thanks again.

The sender is a variable Ground for the dash board gauge.
If you remove that 1 wire connector and then turn on the key, the gauge should show full HOT or Full COLD.
Then Ground that 1 wire to the engine, gauge should now be opposite of what it was, so it will switch to Full HOT or Full COLD.

Than means wire and gauge are good, replace sender.
