On Fords this is an age old issue.
If yours is noisy the damage is done. But you can make it better until it goes out. Change the fluid and use the valvoline high milage mercon V tranny fluid.
btw, I change mine by loosening the fitting on the rack right in the center of the vehicle. When you drain it that way it'll change about 1/2 the fluid. You might want to change it and then in a week or so change it again.

Take it somewhere and have it done, they juse hook the machine up to it... start it up, suck it out, put new in, suck it out, put new in... turn the wheel all the way back and forth 20 times, suck it out, put new in... etc.. keep doing this until there is no more dark fluid left...
Its easier to jus take it somewhere though..
