Icon5 Converting from a 3.0 OHV to a 4.0 SOHC

Ok, here's the deal
I have a nice 2004 Black 2x4 Ranger and I really like everything about the truck except the weak 3.0. I could sell the truck and buy another one but there's not really any 04 or 05 2X4Rangers with the 4.0.
I've looked on here for some threads where someone else has replaced a 3.0 with a 4.0 and I can't find any. If someone on here has done this swap please point me in the right direction.
As many of you already know, the 3.0 is a good reliable engine but it doesn't have hardly any low end torque and it doesn't get much better gas mileage than the 4.0. That's why Ford stop putting it in the Ranger in 2008. I used to own a 1994 Ranger with a 4.0 OHV and it was ALOT more powerful than the 3.0 that I have now.
I would really like to find a doner vehicle to do this swap, because I know it would be a nightmare finding all the parts and it would probably be more expensive too.
If anyone has any suggestions on where to start finding a doner please let me know.
(I'll also have a cherry 3.0 with all the parts to sell after the conversion is done.)

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Let's Bump this thing up. lol ... Is no one responding to this thead because I'm a 3.0 guy or does nobody know how to do this conversion?
To: WillinThe04Ranger
I'd love to put a 5.0 in there, but that would also mean changing the transmission and drive shaft.
I would do this if I could find a good cheap doner like a Mustang, Explorer or Mercury Montaineer.
I was also wondering, if I happen to find a 4X4 doner vehicle, how hard would it be to change the oil pan and the oil pick up tube?

Thanks for the heads up guys ... I guess I'll be using the tranny from the doner truck.
I think I'm going to stick with a Ranger with a 4.0 to aviod the whole PATS thing.
Knowing my luck, I'll have to swap out the steering collums too.

A 2012 Ford Ranger?
Is Ford actually going to redesign the Ranger? They've already done it in other countries but can't believe they are here because they always used the Sport-Trak excuse.

actually the excuse is they 'dont want to take away from the F150 sales' which is a **** poor excuse, they just choose to ignore the fact that theres a huge market for midsize trucks, so they leave it to gm and toyota and nissan to take care of that segment while they put their focus into making the F150 and superduty uglier and uglier every 2 years

There are mule spy shots all over the internet. It will be about the same size as the sport trac and should have an ecoboost 4cyl.

Yeah, the F-150 excuse does sound better but like you said ... It is still a poor excuse.
I checked out the mule pics on the internet and it basically looks like they covered up a Mazda BT-50. I think the new Ranger is going to be the BT-50s cousin. It all makes sense though ... the Maza B-Series trucks look A LOT like the Ranger.

ah, didn't know about the BT50. Yep that's basically a Wildtrak (euro) Ranger. Which I'm not super in love with either but at least its 'next gen'. Geez they need to just build the U.S. version on that chassis with a Sport Trac Adrenaline front end and make the rest look like mini F150 and have a kick *** turbo diesel option....and they'll have a winner. God, sometimes i wish I was in charge over there at Ford R&D...
