Coolant Flush
Hey guys, I looked at this guide, https://www.ranger-forums.com/engine-drivetrain-122/how-radiator-flush-using-flush-kit-104581/ , but it didn't help me. I need to do a Coolant Flush but I am not using a kit. I have everything I need but I couldn't find my coolant drain, I finally found it after taking off the plastic cover that was under my Radiator. Now I have run in to another problem, I don't know how to open the drain, this might sound very stupid but there is no plug to unscrew so I don't know how to open it up. I can post a picture of it if nobody knows what I am talking about.
Thanks! |
I was thinking the Butterfly screw broke off but after looking inside it looks like it is a hex screw in side. So I am going to try and stick an allen key in there and undo it.
|
just take the lower rad hose off...little messy but its a lot easier
|
I am done draining the coolant from the radiator but I don't know how to get the old stuff out of the reserve, any ideas? Thank you!
|
dont worry about the leftover in the reserve
|
May I ask why? It looks pretty bad in there so I wouldn't mind cleaning it out.
|
You have to take the whole bottle out to get the reserve empty. that means taking the inner liner of your fender out to get at the bolt or two underthere.
Just pull the hose out from it (if you can) and put fresh in there. I wouldn't worry about it either, unless is Coke brown, you'll be ok. |

Then try taking the one off the top of the radiator. There should be a line right under the cap, thats the overflow line, pull that and see if it'll drain there.

I went and bought a new butterfly plug and installed it. :)
|
It seems like somebody took a pressure washer to my radiator before I bought it and some of the radiator fins/gills are broken/messed up. Is there any way to just replace the fins/gills or would I have to buy a whole new radiator?
Thanks. |
You would have to buy a whole new Radiator.
If less than half are bent, you will be ok. |
Get a fin comb and straighten it.
|
Going to the store and see if they have one, I'm willing to give it a try.
|
Most auto parts stores should at least know what you're talking about if they don't have one.
