x cal tunes (not using bamachips)

ok, lately i have been considering getting the x cal for my truck and getting the tunes from bamachips. Well i just learned last night a friend of mines dad has some kinda thing with SCT where he sells the xcals and also makes tunes for them. He also uses a dyno when making the tunes. Thats the part that interested me the most. BUT i never heard of him doing any of my friends trucks (they all buy chips instead of tunes) so i dont know how good at it he is. So....... could this be a better option for me then buying from bamachips since the guy has a dyno to use when hes making the tunes?

It's a 4.0L OHV, and probably not going to gain much on a dyno versus a canned tune from someone who has worked with rangers/explorer a lot. Now if you had an aftermarket intake, headers, bigger fuel pump, cam, those kind of things I would say go to a dyno for sure. But you could ask how much he would charge I guess if you want to be disappointed when you see numbers on the dyno, lol. It would be cool to get a real world before/after number.

If you buy tunes, try James Henson at Henson Performance
He tunes all kind of stuff, and did he an awesome job with the sport trac. Fairly quick too.

I second this
He remotely tuned my 347 x cammed Mountaineer.

I have driven 2000 mile round trips, getting 18+ mpg,
even went over 13,000 ft elevation, and ran a 14.8 in the same month.

Not bad for a heavy slug

James is the man!!!

Actually im having my heads ported and polished and buying headers and probly underdrive pulleys too. he does have a background in tuning. His prices are different depending on what it is people want.

Just don't let him touch an F150. lol
Again he did great on the sport trac, and several ranger/explorers that I have heard of. I would definitely use him again with a ranger based vehicle. But he tried to tune my F150 and it was horrible. I thought the transmission was going to drop out of it. He sent new tunes some 3 or 4 times before I finally deleted them and paid to have someone else tune it.
