Dipstick

No, not a politician.

Have 99 Explorer Sport, 4.0 OHV, the handle on the engine oil dipstick broke off.

Uncle Henry says "discontinued", gave me a part number, and sure enough, no matter where I go to look.

Same Uncle says same as Ranger 4.0 OHV.

XL2Z-6750-CA

There are two places that say they have it, phony names, no phone no physical address, cloudflare hosted (spam friendly), and all they want is my credit card number.
Right.

Find aluminum handles, setscrew fit to stick, but dimensions are off. .20" is less than 1/4" and no way is that right for the tube.

What do you folks DO for this?

Different than a SOHC 4.0L.

Ideas?

Thanks

Hit a wrecking yard with dipstick in hand
Find one that's the same or longer, cut it down and mark it with full/low notches

Yeah...I've done that on my flatheads. Issue is, our county decided to get rid of wrecking yards oh, 15 years ago. Not much chance of that happening.

With no parts available, I figured somebody here had found a new setscrew handle to put on.

FYI: Car-part . com doesn't have "dipstick" on the part selector menu they have online.
For your sake I hope the omission of this part isn't a computer programming industry norm. I needed a YAW sensor from a yard and learned that the YAW sensor wasn't in their system.
I contacted many and went to a bunch and "gee what's that?" was the common answer.
I had to call one yard (which I knew had the required cars) repeatedly to get a guy to go out to a car and pull one.
Could be fabrication time.

I have searched and searched. All leads, while initially promising, ended with "discontinued" except for two spurious thiefs.

tsnapsmilee dot top and sdnlaboseb dot com

Proper photos, and descriptions, NO contact phone number, NO listed address, state, country, just send us your credit card number.
No.

ARIN listed ownership, or even hosting, is not something I would trust. One of them is "new" as of late last month.

I know what a YAW damper is. Unless you're talking steering damper, I'd think aircraft right off.

See? I KNEW onea youse would have an answer. I can whack and file marks on the stick, as long as the end with the o-ring seal is the same.

I had seen the Dorman, nobody local had one to look at.

Got the Dorman Saturday (yesterday). Yes, a bit longer. The top hole indicating "full" lined up exactly with bottom "low" hole on old stick. Drilled a new top hole, filed crosshatch between, cut end off appropriately and twisted to match.
Interestingly, the old stick is held in with a small roll pin. Dorman seems to be cast into plastic handle.
Someday I will find a new handle, set old stick into it...so saved the old stick for now.

Thanks!
