does my 4.0 OHV have the power?

I need to know if my 2000 4.0L OHV 4X4 will be able to handle the 7" of lift and 35" tires..

Keep in mind:

Gibson Cat back dual exhaust
aFe Intake
4.56's

Another ? How much of a difference is there between the 4.0 OHV and the SOHC? I mean, is the OHV really all that much slower?

Oh, and will I be able to beat my dad's 84 F-350 Diesel (dually) with the Banks Turbo?

n3elz 12-30-2007 03:38 PM

I should hope so. I'm up quite a bit and on 35's and I only have a 3.0, lol. I have 4.56's also.

I don't think you can beat the diesel though, lol -- well, I know I couldn't!

Yes they are slow as hell. I have one now and have had several of each and the OHV is a Very Small step up from the 3.0. The SOHC is a major leap.

Well than i want to drive the SOHC because my OHV with 80K, 31's, and 3.73's beat my friends '93 Thunderbird SC and its not stock lol. He has put more money into that car than i have put into all my vehicles combined!

I have driven a 92 Thunderbird SC that was stock and had been beat its whole life about a month before it threw a rod and I have no doubt in my mind that that car would kick the crap out of any stock ranger.

Yeah a stock SC is 0-60 mph: 7.4 and 15.9 @ 88.5 mph in the 1/4 mile

the SOHC ranger is 0-60 mph: 8.1 and 16.3 seconds @ 86 mph according to factory spec and reviews. Granted I was a little surprised it would be that close. I don't know what a ranger does with a 4.0 OHV but if you give me a minute I'll find it. I seem to recall 10 Seconds 0-60 which at the time wasn't bad, but now it is slow.

Haha. Hey, as long as i can get up and go when its needed i dont mind. I dont really care about take-offs. I want more of the passing power on the highway. And the low-end tourque for when i see a fine piece of muddy real estate:)_

God,Country,FORD 12-30-2007 04:02 PM

I do know that when my dad and i were coming home from Menards with over 2klbs of shingles on the flatbed (we built a flat bed for his truck) we were passin the new diesels... That truck has some freakin balls. sounds AWSOME too lol.

There is nothing wrong with a OHV engine, its just if you wanted a speed demon it is not the motor for you. Heck I have one and it has 156K miles and is just now starting to show its age. The only thing I remember that went wrong with it is a blown head gasket. Heck my 1991 went to 190K miles before it died, and that was more because I overheated it while plowing and the temp gauge stopped working so I didn't know until it lost power.

Outch! lol. Like i said, im not worried about being able to race, just want to have the power to pass some one on the highway if they arnt going atleast 5mph over the speed limit:) lol. And to get me out of anything i may get myself into...

God,Country,FORD 12-30-2007 04:26 PM

So does anyone have any HP and Torque specs for my truck?

HAZZARDJOHN 12-30-2007 04:38 PM

160 horsepower at 4200 rpm and 225 foot-pounds of torque at 2750 rpm

Not bad.. lol. with the exhaust and intake. should be able to keep up some get up and go-ness with the 35's lol Thanks

Lefty04LevelII 12-30-2007 06:14 PM

4.0L V6 SOHC (207 hp @ 5,250 rpm & 238 ft-lbs torque @ 3,000 rpm)

good luck on the CAI. Dynos have shown them to be a waste of money for our trucks. Exhaust may help though. The only thing bolt on/drop in that will really benefit our trucks performance wise is a super charger. 35s will definitely not help.

I feel like an idiot but CAI? Well, Im not really looking to have a street racer lol. Like I said. Just enough power to get through anything I decide to try and drive into, and to pass people that are driving too slow on the highways. Thats all. I should have enough power to do that, right? For my speed fix, i will buy a car. Not sure what i want to get yet...

Lefty04LevelII 12-30-2007 06:20 PM

cai = cold air intake
