I’ve found some new information out about the SOHC spark plugs and replacing them, that all SOHC 4.0 owners need to know.
First, they are not the same as the OHV spark plugs!!
Second, autozone lists them as being it was exactly the same. They are wrong. So wrong that I went as far as installing a set in my new SOHC and it was horrible. Pinging set in right under boost.
Autozone doesn’t even list the correct plug for the SOHC.
The difference is in the length. The SOHC spark plug is about 1/4 inch longer then that of the OHV. Yes the OHV plug will fit but it won’t operate properly.
The stock number on the SOHC plug is AGSF34FP, for those looking for a step colder plug AGSF24C’s for copper or the NGK #TR5-1 or stock NGK #7060.
Be sure to check when you goto replacing them as to the length being the same as the ones your taking out. If not immediately return them as THEY WILL NOT WORK and could possibly do harm to your engine!
