Drop in K/N airfilter

do they make a pre filter wrap for the flat K/N filters like they do for the cone shaped ones?

i just bought a drop in since i needed a new filter anyways.. raced the ranger against my buddy in his chevy and since im geared low, i hit the upper rpms fast.... and alot ha and i could hear that damn thing suckin in the air ha.

Get ready to throw that thing in the garbage. K&N's = dirt in engine.

And to answer your question. I don't think they make a pre-filter for the drop ins. I've personally only seen the ones for cone type filters.

ehh, stock air box will help keep alot of the dirt out, and ill rig up something to cover the inlet hole like a pre filter

The stock air box will let dirt in, and if you cover the inlet hole aren't you kind of defeating the purpose? That air filter isn't going to make your truck faster.

Stay with the OEM paper filter.....The reason K&N came out with the "Precharger Filter" for use with their regular filter in dusty conditions is they knew how much dirt the regular filter was passing!!

I'm a fan of K&N. But Bob is correct. If your in a more than average dusty condition like dirt roads and off roads.. stick with a paper filter. Or get a conical with a outerwears prefilter.

are you in houston though? i dont like dealin with shipping ha

For the flat filters they use a 1/2 inch thick piece of coarse foam as a prefilter. I know that a 99 Powerstroke filter comes with a piece of foam.

If anyone ever needs a K&N drop in tell me. I got one I dont want anymore, it only needs to be cleaned. I only used it for 10,000 then threw in a purolator.

I wish I knew someone UP here that was going to install a K&N on their truck so I could swap my MAF sensor with them... why ruin a good one when they can have mine?:dunce:
