dumping exhaust
Ok i know this is probably up here somewhere, but i have a flowmaster with duals out the back. Would it get louder to get rid (sell) the tips and dump the exhaust before the rear axle? Im not sure what series my muffler is and im still at stock height.

In a word, yes. Not only will it get louder, but it will resonate in the cab as drive along. Some speeds will be worse than others. I had a truck (fullsize V8) setup like this and after a 12 hour road trip, I had pipes welded up and ran all the way out the back. I also had a truck that dumped at a 45-ish degree angle behind the bumper. It wasn't as bad, but it still got pretty annoying. The upside though, it sounded great outside the truck.

well if i dump my exhaust, the angle of my muffler will cause the exhaust to hit my rear axle gear casing (or whatever) I was told that this would heat up the oil in there and that would be bad...??

I have a wastegate dump right under my engine and i've never had problems with it heating up anything. I think you are worrying too much.

But I know I ruined a leafspring bushing by having the exhaust cutoff and pointing in that general direction. |

Something else I forgot to mention earlier. When I had my exhaust dumped on my old truck from the stock setup, I lost a lot of power below 2500 RPM. It screamed up high though. No back pressure. When I ran the pipes out the back, I got my power back down low, plus a little more (from my butt dyno) and probably lost a little on top from the dumped setup, but I'm not the type to run around town with my foot on the floor, so I was fine with it.

so if i decide to run a tip back out, i could just snake a pipe out behind the passenger door (only like 2 foot of pipe) and get some of the power back, or would that little bit of pipe not make a big difference? This muffler is single in and single out.

You can always run it as a turn down and see if it floats your boat. If not, adding more pipe later is easy. You might not experience the same thing I did with my old truck, but if you do, I'd run it farther than to in front of the rear tire.

ok i just asked this question on another thread, but what do you guys think about running a super 44, single in dual out and run one pipe with a tip out the back, and dump the other behind the axle.

just get rid of a muffler and run it past the cab and put 90s turn down pipes on it

install it with a dump and if you dont like it then you can add... but save the money to start... mine is dumped and i love it

yeah im gonna try that half tipped half dumped deal and see how it sounds hehehe
