why is my exhaust louder when my truck is cold?

my exhaust sounds awesome for about the first 2 minutes after i start the truck, it has a nice low tone around 2000-2500 rpm. after my truck gets warm my awesome exhaust note dissappears. does anyone know what causes this?

It takes a little while for the cat and the muffler to warm up, when those do they queit things down a bit.

Interestingly enough, it's your ears that are different and not the truck. It's well documented biologically that our hearing is more adept in the cold than it is when warmer.

This was an adaptation that came about in our ancestors due to the increased predator activity in winter -- particularly wolves -- when game is more scarce.

The extra sensitivity of the ears allowed us time to pray for our sorry butts before being eaten.

Sorry, I should remember I often explain REAL stuff, lol -- I though people would see it for what it was -- bogus science!

John, I like your sense of humor. You use it infrequently enough to catch people off guard, including me. Thanks for the laugh.
