EGR question

I've got a 2002 FX4 that i just put a 2003 engine in. So i've got a Non-EGR engine in a EGR set up truck. So as soon as i started the truck the CEL light came on. I had autozone pull the codes and they are P1401 and P1409....both EGR codes. So here's what i did this afternoon. I took the EGR pressure sensor and the EGR vacuum regulator off the old engine and just plugged them into the harness in the truck, not hooked up to anything. I haven't driven it much yet, but the CEL hasn't come on in the few minutes that the engine ran.

Just wondering if having the sensor and regulator plugged in but just drawing cold air will affect driveability or engine performance. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

But the air is not going into the engine. I just have the sensor and regulator tied in electrically, Does the EGR system use either of these sensors to lean our richen the air fuel mixture?

Not to stray off topic but why did you replace motor? How much work as it? I have an 05 engine that I am putting in my 04 for when I rack up my miles or the timing chain rattle drives me crazy.

i bought a 2002 FX4 for $2000 with a siezed engine. The dude ran it out of oil. So i picked up a 2003 engine for 750 and popped it in. It was not bad putting it in. It was much easier than putting an engine in my 1990 mustang. The main engine harness plugs into the fire wall with one giant plug. That helps out a lot. What i did was take a blank piece of paper and write down the first thing you took off. Take the hardware from that item and put it in a ziplock bag and number it corresponding step number. Just do that all the way through and then work backwards when you are reassembling. really all you have to disconnect is about 3 vacuum lines, main harness, transmission harness, 2 heater hoses, 2 grounds, radiator hoses, break booster hose, ummm......ac compressor, power steering pump, fuel line, fan, shroud and radiator, motor mounts, y pipe, bell housing bolts and your ready to go. special tools you need are for the fan and fuel line. get them at autozone. are you coming to the GA meet this saturday?

It will code again, guaranteed. You need to transplant the EVR, DPFE, EGR and the steel tube and hoses from the 2002 engine. It should all bolt right on to the 2003.
