increase milage questions

2004 4.0 SOHC all stock in the engine department.

Well im trying everything for a little better performance and Better Mileage is KEY

Right now I just have a K&N drop in filter.

However Ive been thinking of a cold air intake of some sorts
This is the main one O was looking at 57-2561

Followed by this one 77-2561KP

Im not really sure which one it the best one to get. Im leaning more toward the plastic one.

Has anyone tried either of those to see good results

Another thing I was thinking of is the Screamin Demon Coil Pack with some aftermarket wires and increase the spark gap a little bit. I would think that it would help me out a little bit..

Also I know an exhaust would help me out a tad Im just still torn between what muffler i wanna use.

I know a Xcal3 would be a great option but I would think I should improve on other things before i got some tunes put on it

Also do they make underdrive pully kits for the 4.0 sohc

I think the biggest impact will be the tuner but not sure if the difference will offset the cost.

I know the best would be the tuner however isnt it best to mod before getting a tune so the tunes can be set for your mods. Am I right or does it not matter?

your stock intake IS a cold air intake. it gets all the air from outside the truck, where as those KN filters get the air from under the hood, where the heat of the engine makes it actually become more of a warm air intake.

Can't speak on these Rangers but some vehicles see notable gains in MPG and performance with a simple reflash of the ECU...even without power-modding anything else.

I got worse gas mileage with my X3, only like .5 less mpgs though. Course I have mine set on a 93 Octane Towing program lol.
