Engine dies when put into drive or reverse?

My engine will idle and then when i go to put in in drive and drive it the engine dies right away. I have to keep the gas on in order for it to run. I think it may be the position of my cam shaft is there any other possibilities for a fix?

put the wheels up in the air on jack stands, start the truck in neutral and without stepping on the brake, click it into drive or reverse. If it does not stall, slowly apply the brake. If it now stalls (feels like you let the clutch out on a manual trans vehicle without pressing the gas) the torque converter clutch could be stuck engaged. If it does not stall suddenly, and kind of struggles and dies, it could be the cam position sensor, IAC motor, vacuum leak, etc.
